About Mediation Training

Mediation Training with Elizabeth Clemants

Whether you're just beginning your journey in mediation or looking to deepen an existing practice, this monthly training series is designed to strengthen your skills and broaden your understanding of the field of conflict resolution.

Led by Elizabeth Clemants—social worker, shaman, and seasoned mediator with more than 20 years of experience—these trainings blend practical tools with deep emotional insight. Elizabeth has mediated cases in business, family, workplace, and community contexts and is known for her ability to teach the invisible dynamics that often underlie human conflict.

Monthly Mediation Themes

Each month we explore a new theme designed to expand your capacity as a mediator. From understanding power imbalances to navigating silence in a room, these topics offer fresh tools to augment your practice and support growth at all levels.

All levels are welcome—beginner, intermediate, or advanced mediators. Each module stands on its own, so you can drop in when it fits your schedule or commit to completing all 24 themes over time.

Training Format

Each monthly training includes:

1-hour virtual lecture (live on Mondays)

2–3 hours of asynchronous learning, including a case video of Elizabeth mediating

2-hour live practice session (Fridays)

Participants will have the week to complete the homework and reflection activities in preparation for the practice session. The structure is designed to support integration of both technical and relational skills.

Certification & Continuing Education

We will track your participation across the 24 monthly themes. Completion of all 24 will earn a certificate that satisfies the training requirement under Part 146 of the New York State Unified Court System*. These skills are not only applicable in formal mediation settings but also invaluable in everyday life—from navigating interpersonal relationships to facilitating difficult workplace conversations.

The development of emotional intelligence that comes with learning these skills is one of the most significant tools an adult can have to navigate life with integrity and clarity.

Why Train with Elizabeth?

Elizabeth brings a rare combination of grounded professionalism, deep humanity, and systems thinking to her training. In addition to founding Planning Change, she founded Hidden Water, a nonprofit that uses restorative justice to address child sexual abuse within families. She is frequently called on to train leaders across government, nonprofit, and corporate sectors to address entrenched systemic conflict.

This is not your typical mediation training. It’s an invitation to grow—not just as a mediator, but as a person.

Please note: Final placement on any court roster is at the discretion of the local Administrative Judge. Participation in a course approved under Part 146 does not guarantee placement on a court roster.
